The Automotive Library was presented to the MSA by John Dowell in 2004 and is held in trust by the association who have agreed to protect and preserve it whilst it is in their care. The library consists of around 2,500 books pamphlets and paraphernalia.

The subjects covered are all automotive and include books on learning to drive, some dating back to the start of the twentieth century.

The library includes a copy of every edition of the Highway Code since it was first published in 1935 alongside books on the history of the automobile, books about the history and development of all the great car marques of the past plus books on motoring law and a large number of back copies of motoring magazines.

If you wish to use the Automotive Library for research purposes please contact MSA head office to arrange an appointment. Books may not leave the premises.
