Take part in a new CBT pilot

DVSA are working in partnership with Highways England, Road Safety Analysis and Driving Research Ltd to pilot 3 new ways of delivering Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) to young riders, who haven’t taken a CBT before.

This is a valuable piece of research to improve the safety of all new riders across Great Britain.

To do this, we need CBT trainers based in the East of England, including:

  • Norwich
  • Peterborough
  • Dunstable
  • Bedford
  • Ipswich
  • Southend

How it’ll work

If you’re invited to join the pilot you’ll need to attend a training session on the different versions of the CBT you’ll need to provide.

You’ll also be given guidance on who to offer the training too and all costs for the pilot will be covered by Highways England.

Any riders who take part in the pilot will be offered a free CBT paid for by Highways England. They’ll still receive the normal CBT certification and will be legally entitled to ride on the road with L plates for 2 years.

If you are interested in being involved in the pilot, please email Lorraine Willis at lorraine.willis@highwaysengland.co.uk.
