Our annual survey helps us understand what it’s like working as an approved driving instructor (ADI) in Great Britain.
Thank you to the 3,448 approved driving instructors who completed our October 2025 survey.
Your feedback provides valuable insights into the profession and helps to shape how we support you and improve our services.
Here are 4 important findings from our latest survey:
- Lesson prices are stabilising
The average price that is charged for a driving lesson has remained the same as in 2024, just over 50% of instructors currently charge £36 to £40 per hour. There are still regional trends with the south-west and south-east regions showing more higher than average prices.
- More instructors can take on new pupils
The results are continuing to show the number of instructors who have availability to take on new pupils is increasing. Results from the 2025 survey shows 45.4% of instructors have availability, compared to 36.6% in 2024 and 29.8% in 2023.
- Reduction in working hours
The increased availability to take on more candidates is supported by a reduction in the number of instructors working over 25 hours a week. The 2025 results show 56.6%, down from 59.8% in 2024.
- Fewer instructors are completing the survey
Around 8% of ADIs completed the 2025 survey compared to around 14% in 2024. We recognise that this response rate is lower than usual, and we understand this may reflect survey fatigue or concerns about whether feedback leads to action. Please be assured: your views matter, and they are shaping our priorities.
